About
Magda Kress is a queer NYC-based upright and electric bassist, and can frequently be found playing one or two basses all over the city in musicals, concerts, cabarets, and recording sessions. She especially loves collaborating with theatre-makers and performing new works. Past favorites include Pretty Woman (First National Tour), Folk Wandering (Pipeline Theatre), Dead Outlaw (Audible Theater), The Tattooed Lady (New Dramatists), and Conversion (soundtrack, Chronicle Cinema). Magda has shared the stage with Adam Pascal, Liz Calloway, Bonnie Milligan, Annie Golden, Richard Kind, Lauren Patten, Telly Leung, and many others. She is a regular call to play with artists and bands such as Miss Tutti & the Fruity Band, The Little Mermen, A Band Called Honalee, Ellen Winter, Gracie McGraw, Blaine Alden Krauss, Doris Dear, and Pearly.
She received her master’s degree in Music Composition from Bowling Green State University. Her compositions have been programmed on several concerts and festivals, including Electronic Music Midwest (Lewis University), Vox Novus' Circuit Bridges Series (Gallery MC) and Fifteen Minutes of Fame Series (Jan Hus Church, with cellist Craig Hultgren), Folk Wandering Family Concert (ART/NY Theatres) and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra Student Composer Reading Session (Bowling Green State University).
